Ultrasound examination of superficial and deep veins of the lower or upper limbs (1 region per limb)
The examination is recommended for detecting superficial varicose veins, identifying their cause, and planning varicose vein surgery.
By examining the vein walls, inflammation (phlebitis) or blockage (thrombosis) can be detected, and the exact affected segments can be determined. It is also useful for assessing the resolution of previously diagnosed and treated deep vein thrombosis and evaluating the effectiveness of therapy, helping to determine how long anticoagulant treatment should continue.
For longstanding lower limb symptoms (pain, swelling, tightness), examining the deep veins of the lower limbs is advisable to rule out possible deep vein thrombosis.
Attention: If there is suspicion of a recent deep vein thrombosis (e.g., sudden pain or swelling in one limb), it is important to rest and call emergency services to prevent pulmonary embolism.
